Cultural sites

The department is working with stakeholders to manage concerns around drone use near cultural sites.

There are concerns around how drones are used near cultural sites. Drone flyers should carefully research the local regulations for drone use in the area where you intend to fly a drone before you do so, especially if you intend to operate in a special area, such as cultural sites or sites of significance.

Cultural sites

Recognising concerns related to the use of drones near cultural sites, the department is working on a Drone Rule Management System (DRMS), which aims to help address such concerns in a coordinated and nationally consistent manner.

Through the DRMS project, the department will work with state and territory stakeholders, and through public consultation, to design and implement nationally consistent rules related to security, noise, privacy, environmental impacts and cultural sites.
