Safety

Know the rules that apply to recreational drone users and fly safely.

All recreational and commercial drone operators should be familiar with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority's (CASA) drone safety rules and Know Your Drone website.

CASA also has a form to report unsafe drone operations.

CASA takes the lead on drone safety

CASA is responsible for all safety regulations relating to the operation of drones. For more information and to learn about the drone safety rules, please visit CASA's website.

Safety concerns

There are safety concerns related to the improper use of drones. All drone operators should be aware of the rules and responsibilities that apply to them before flying. Drone rules that apply to recreational users can be found on the CASA website.

If someone has been seriously injured or needs emergency assistance please dial 000 (Emergency Services) immediately.

Community members who witness unsafe drone behaviour are encouraged to report this via CASA's website. This form should be used when you think drone operations might have broken the safety rules.

Safety breaches can only be investigated where there is sufficient evidence, such as photos or video recordings of the breach and the person controlling the drone at the time. Any evidence you can capture at the time of the incident will help support the investigation process.
